No more excuses

I’ve always made excuses for not blogging and the biggest of them all being “I’m redesigning my website, again”  and so as of writing this first post since April, I have finally stopped designing my website and will try my best to start blogging again.

I’ve been fascinated with blogging since high school, started my first website around 2007 to do just that. I bought web hosting for a year and installed WordPress all my own. I honestly didn’t know what I was doing. Around this time I was going to a vocational school for computer networking so I knew my way around computers and understood the basics of website and design. I did take a few secondary classes on web design which helped me quite a bit.

So there I was, with my first website and blog. I don’t even remember what I named and I coulden’t find it on the Web Archive. It’s long gone now. But I started blogging about random stuff, my life and school. In one of my computer classes, each week we would have current events day which would pick a current event related to technology and make a right up and discuss it with the class. I’d share the articles I wrote and if was in the mood for note taking, I’d share some of the follow up discussions.

That sparked an idea. I started checking out trending searches on Google and started writing articles and lo and behold, I was actually getting views and comments! I coulden’t believe it. People were actually following me. A while later, I was contacted by someone who I don’t remember and they wanted me to review their website and pay me for it. I thought it was a scam at first, but turned out to be legit. I got paid a whopping $15 for that post.

I kept it up for a while, racking up nearly 100 posts but I started to get sick of the design of the site. I wanted to explore other options and I’ve been doing that ever since.

I have OCD, I over think and I overanalyze things. I’d run into a design problem and I’d give up and move on to another theme only to find another problem I coulden’t figure out. I spent so much money on premium themes to never use them. It was a never ending cycle.

I’m done. I had enough of this crap. Does the design really matter? no, it doesn’t. Content is what matters and that is what I’m going to start focusing on. I hope I can get that spark I had back in high school reignited but I’m going to write about what I want and not what’s trending. I’m not doing this for money either, I’m doing this for me.

No more excuses. Let’s starting blogging. I’m going to be honest though, I’m a little rusty.
